Trustee
Julie Miller retired in July 2022 after more than 30 years working as a public health professional in Ohio, most recently as the Health Commissioner for the Knox County General Health District – Knox Public Health, where she served for 12 years. From April 2022 to August 2023 Julie served as the Executive Director of the Winter Sanctuary Homeless Shelter after serving on the Board of Directors for several years. Her work with those experiencing homelessness locally and in other counties in Ohio is directly related to her experience with being homeless as a young adult. Julie also was involved with the initial research for the book Bridges Out of Poverty and has presented nationally on the topic. She currently is working with the United Way of Knox County as a consultant to coordinate a housing strategy assessment for the community in hopes of identifying solutions to challenges faced by those individuals seeking housing. Miller has a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing service administration from Otterbein College. At a local level, Julie is a member of the Board of Trustees for New Directions Domestic Violence Shelter and the YMCA of Knox County and is a volunteer for the Winter Sanctuary Homeless Shelter. She also serves as a local consultant on public health issues and on leadership.
